Dear Uppers,
As you may have noticed, we just posted new releases for Up! Software for Windows 1.18, and Mac 1.4. The features include:
1.Improved easiness of support removal for layer thickness of 0.2mm and lower.
2.Added platform level calibration.
3.Allow full range model printing on platform even with raft. Raft will be printed within build envolpe.
4.Optimized wall printing. Inner fill is printed closer to wall, which results in more solid wall.
5.Removed the option for raft height, and fixed the height to be 7 layers.
6.Colorful scale added in the model view for easier measurement for X-axis and Y-axis.
7.Fixed the defect showing temperature in percentage when a print is canceled in the middle of a print job.
8. New Logo introduced.
9. Improved printing quality. Vertical wall is smoother.
10. Improved model view.
11.For release in Mac, added option for ROM upgrade.
12.For release in Windows, added feature for shell printing, which increases printing efficiency for hollow model.
Hope this new software update can resolve some of the issues that you guys have been facing, and give you better printing experiences.
You can find the software upgrade at:

Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
On the Mac version, the platform calibrate does not appear to be available. Selecting the "platform calibrate" menu option does nothing.
This is a problem for me, since it somehow seems to have selected incorrect platform calibration settings, so I cannot print with a raft with the new Mac software.

Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
Why is the Mac version always left behind on the latest features - surely it's just a matter of moving the print algorithm across.12.For release in Windows, added feature for shell printing, which increases printing efficiency for hollow model.
Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
Can anyone please describe more what this does and how it works and the expected difference between checked/unchecked "Shell" in the printing preference page.12.For release in Windows, added feature for shell printing, which increases printing efficiency for hollow model.
Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
I tested it out today. Using the Shell option, the print is now 100% hollow. NO INNER SUPPORT STRUCTURE!ahd71 wrote:Can anyone please describe more what this does and how it works and the expected difference between checked/unchecked "Shell" in the printing preference page.12.For release in Windows, added feature for shell printing, which increases printing efficiency for hollow model.
So you wont be able to use it on objects that have a flat or low angle top.
So if you print a cube with the Shell option, the top face of the cube will not print, cause there is nothing inside the cube to support it.

Hi, see what is shell printing and its difference.

Excellent. Thank you both for the explanation (and the material saving feature)

Anyone else seen this?pleppik wrote:On the Mac version, the platform calibrate does not appear to be available. Selecting the "platform calibrate" menu option does nothing.

I have tried removing the Prefs file, but that did not help. Not being able to print with a raft is causing me some real problems.
Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
This is a serious bug on the Mac side, and needs to be fixed soon.pleppik wrote:Anyone else seen this?pleppik wrote:On the Mac version, the platform calibrate does not appear to be available. Selecting the "platform calibrate" menu option does nothing.

I did find a workaround for those who have Parallels:
1) Download the Windows version of the Up software.
2) Perform the platform calibration in Windows.
3) This will magically fix the platform calibration on the Mac side. You will also be able to access the Mac side platform calibration after doing this.
What appears to have happened to me is that when I first launched Mac version 1.14, it didn't properly set all the platform calibration values to defaults. The missing values caused an error when trying to run the platform calibration in the Mac software, and also caused it to create screwy rafts which are impossible to print. Doing platform calibration in Windows fixed the missing default values.
Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
Thanks Joseph and PP3DP, and everybody have a great 2013!
Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
Please reconsider removing the raft-height setting.
I am printing very small things, and sometimes I NEED thin raft to successfully clean overhangs or fragile parts.
Example:
http://www.thingiverse.com/image:89397
On such small parts 7 layers of raft would fill out an entire section of the model, making it impossible to clean.
Sure, I can print raftless now, but this will not allways work.
I know most won't print as small things as I do, but it was allways fun pushing the limits. Please don't make the software more fool-proof then necessary, you could instead add a expert-mode-checkbox or a ini-settings file if you want to reduce the GUI functions.

Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
Wont 7 layers of raft be a thinner raft than you could set previously? The setting used to be 2mm minimum - 7 layers @ 0.2mm layers is 1.4mm and @ 0.25mm is 1.75 - only at 0.3mm do they get thicker with 2.1mm. Surely you would want thinner layers with such small objects anyway?Marcus wrote:Please reconsider removing the raft-height setting.

Hi, before submit the platform calibration step, please firstly click set nozzle heighet, otherwise the selected value is not functional.pleppik wrote:Anyone else seen this?pleppik wrote:On the Mac version, the platform calibrate does not appear to be available. Edward: The problem I was having was that the platform calibration window would not appear for me at all. So I could not even access the nozzle height or other controls in that window.Edward wrote:Hi, before submit the platform calibration step, please firstly click set nozzle heighet, otherwise the selected value is not functional.
Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
Weird that running the Windows version fixed it - it must be creating a file or setting stored on the printer that the Mac version fails to check?? I wonder does this maybe mean platform calibration will now be stored on the printer and not need to be redone from OS to OS?pleppik wrote:Edward: The problem I was having was that the platform calibration window would not appear for me at all. Well I need total temperature control to do better prints .
Thanks Mr. Joseph .

Thanks Delta Micro
Now the fill is perfect inbetween inner / outerwall

Always breath out on the way UP
Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
using the mac version.... the platform calibration window doesn't open for me either...
(the shell setting is not available in the mac version??)
thanks,

Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
It seems to work for me on Mountain Lion (10.8). I have my platform level so I didn't need to calibrate but I could open the Platform Calibrate screen, I could move up and down and I could hit the numbers to move the head to the various calibrate positions. I usually open the Up software first to add models and move stuff around then walk over and hook up the printer. It was then that I've tried to open the Platform Calibrate window - just in case it's some bug affected by sequence.r03ert0 wrote:using the mac version.... the platform calibration window doesn't open for me either...

If you let me know your OSX version I'll test it against my printer if I have a version handy and we can see if it's that.
... and yes - it seems we miss out on Shell printing but we wouldn't know we were running on Mac OS X if there weren't some features missing for us

Re: Up! Software new releases for both Windows and Mac
I tried first with 10.6.8 and now with 10.8.2, and in both cases it didn't work...It seems to work for me on Mountain Lion (10.8). I used the 'Console' application, and I found the error log that I append to the end of this post.
It seems that the code fails when it calls SetHeightSelectdItemWithCB. I suppose (based on the previous e-mail by Edward) that that function should get the nozzle height?? However, my nozzle height is already configured... I can see the value when I try to print. Do I have to configure it somewhere else as well?
(Just a thought.... it would be fantastic if pp3dp released a basic, GUI-less, API to control the printer. No need to release their high level proprietary code, just a method to access the printer... especially for the Mac platform which doesn't seem to be a priority... there are so many missing features, and even items in the app menues that have never worked (like the 'Autofix thing', or the 'Open recent' items). It would take me just 3 min to fix that one if I had the code.... [I may even end up taking the time to disassemble the app and figure it out myself...] otherwise, I'm very happy with the printer and the support)
thanks,
roberto
